Description

Reassignment of students to schools within the county have been approved by the Reassignment Review Committee in accordance with policies with the School Board.  They are presented for formal ratification.

GENERAL ITEMS

9. APPROVAL OF EASEMENT ON SAILOR CIRCUS PARCEL AT SARASOTA HIGH FOR FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT
Description
As part of the renovation for Sailor Circus, Florida Power & Light is installing new electrical service. Florida Power & Light needs to obtain a utility easement from the School Board in order to install the new service. The location of the easement includes property owned by Sarasota County Schools as identified in the attached easement documents.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Florida Power & Light utility easement on the Sailor Circus parcel which is adjacent to Sarasota High School, as presented.

10. APPROVAL OF HUDSON BAYOU DRAINAGE MAINTENANCE EASEMENT FOR SARASOTA COUNTY
Description
As part of the Hudson Bayou Drainage Project, Sarasota County needs to obtain a drainage maintenance easement from the School Board in order to maintain the flow of the canal that runs through the Sarasota High School campus.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Hudson Bayou Drainage Maintenance easement on the Sarasota High School campus, as presented.

11. APPROVAL OF THE 2019-2020 AND 2020-2021 SCHOOL CALENDARS
Description
A district committee comprised of school district level administrators, teachers, members of the classified staff and parents developed the proposed district calendars for 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.  The proposed calendars have been advertised and are ready for approval.

That the proposed 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 district school calendars be approved as presented.

AGREEMENTS/CONTRACTS

12. APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN COASTAL BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE, INC., COMPEER SARASOTA PROGRAM AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description
Compeer Sarasota is a mentoring program targeting youth with a diagnosed mental health disorder in Sarasota County.

Recommendation
That the agreement between Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. Compeer Sarasota Program and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved as presented.

13. APPROVAL OF AFFILIATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN HARBOR CHASE AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FL
Description
The School Board offers to enrolled students a Health Science program and Harbor Chase manages a health care facility. The School Board desires to provide to its students a clinical learning experience through the application of knowledge and Clinical Skills in actual patient-centered situations in a health care facility. Harbor Chase has agreed to make its facility available to School Board for such purposes.

Recommendation
That the Affiliation Agreement between Harbor Chase and the School Board of Sarasota County, FL be approved as presented.

14. APPROVAL FOR THE TWO-YEAR EXTENSION OF THE COLLEGE BOARD: SPRINGBOARD ELA TEXTBOOK FROM AUGUST 2019 - JULY 2021
Description
To approve the adoption extension of The College Board: SpringBoard ELA textbook, as the primary instructional tool for gifted 6-12 English Language Arts instruction. This textbook was initially adopted in 2014. SpringBoard helps students build extensive content knowledge with close reading and analysis of texts, critical viewing, wide-ranging independent reading, and lively, engaging classroom discussion.

Recommendation
That the two-year extension of The College Board: SpringBoard ELA Textbook be approved.

15. APPROVAL OF THE DUAL ENROLLMENT ARTICULATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA SARASOTA-MANATEE AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description
This agreement is for USF Sarasota-Manatee (USFSM) and The School Board of Sarasota County (SCSB) to enter into a Dual Enrollment Agreement to create opportunities for eligible high school students from Sarasota County Schools to pursue college instruction in the Dual Enrollment program at USFSM.

Recommendation
That the Dual Enrollment Articulation Agreement between the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida be approved.

16. APPROVAL OF THE STEAMMAKERS MOVEMENT GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR WILKINSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $5,000 will provide a creative, innovative learning environment for Wilkinson Elementary Students to practice and produce projects and solutions out of their imaginations using Makerspace tools.

17. APPROVAL OF THE VOICE OF A CHILD GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR PINE VIEW SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $9,000 will provide teachers from Pine View School, Fruitville Elementary, Toledo Blade Elementary and Venice Elementary with collaborative professional learning time which allows them to help gifted students develop strategies for self-expression and to move their writing from good to great.

18. APPROVAL OF THE ROBOTIC PLATFORMS GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR ATWATER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $9,679 will provide Atwater Elementary students with opportunities to learn computer programming/coding skills through robotics.

19. APPROVAL OF THE LEVELED LITERACY INTERVENTION: BRIDGING THE READING GAP K-5 GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR EMMA E. BOOKER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $10,000 will provide Leveled Literacy Intervention kits to Emma E. Booker Elementary School to help improve students' reading skills and allow them to develop a love of reading.

20. APPROVAL OF AN AQUATIC ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR PINE VIEW SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $2,000 will allow Pine View School's Marine Science and Biology students to set up and maintain aquarium tanks as a learning tool while also providing the guidance department with a place for students to release stress.

21. APPROVAL OF THE COLLABORATE! CREATE! COMMUNICATE! - WRITING AND THE PERFORMING ARTS GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR ASHTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $2,625 will support Ashton Elementary school students' writing through the interactive experiences of watching a live performance of Peter Pan and then creating their own written plays with the assistance of Florida Studio Theatre's staff.

22. APPROVAL OF THE FLYING THROUGH FLUENCY WITH REFLEX MATH PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR ATWATER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $3,295 will provide a one-year subscription to Reflex Math for Atwater Elementary School students to improve math proficiency.

23. APPROVAL OF THE FLIPPING FOR PHONICS GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR ENGLEWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE:Grant funds of $2,153 will help Englewood Elementary kindergarten students master phonemic awareness and explicit sound-symbol relationships.

24. APPROVAL OF THE LEARNING THROUGH PLAY: SPECIAL OF THE DAY GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION FOR LAMARQUE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $10,000 will equip the Lamarque Elementary School Specials team with materials and equipment to be used in a wide variety of cross-curricular learning opportunities for all K-5 students, including those with special needs.

25. APPROVAL OF THE ROBOART GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR GLENALLEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $2,716 will improve Glenallen Elementary School students' spatial and science skills by allowing them to engineer a robot that creatively uses various types of energy to push objects, such as a paint brush, on canvas to create abstract art works.

26. APPROVAL OF THE LIVING SKILLS FOR LIFE! GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR NORTH PORT HIGH SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $3,896 will help fund additional furniture and supplies for a functional living skills "apartment" which allows North Port High School students with autism and severe/profound disabilities to learn basic housekeeping for their transition into adulthood.

27. APPROVAL OF THE SARASOTA COUNTY SCHOOLS SUMMER LEARNING ACADEMY (SCSSLA) GRANT APPLICATION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR TRADITIONAL TITLE I ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Description
NON-COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $500,000 will support activities at traditional Title I elementary schools designed to improve school preparedness and stop summer learning loss in reading and math.  Due to fiscal considerations, the grant supports two (2) weeks of the Summer 2018 and four (4) weeks of the Summer 2019 program.

Recommendation
That the Sarasota County Schools Summer Learning Academy (SCSSLA) grant application be approved.

28. APPROVAL OF THE WORKING VERTICALLY GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR OAK PARK SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $2,085 will support development of postural and upper extremity skill and endurance of Oak Park School students.

29. APPROVAL OF THE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT THROUGH EDIBLE SCIENCE GRANT APPLICATION TO THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR ATWATER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description
NON-COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $2,100 will allow Atwater Elementary students to learn about science concepts through a visit by Sub Zero Ice Cream and Yogurt Exploration at the school.

Recommendation
That the Positive Behavior Support through Edible Science grant application be approved.

30. APPROVAL OF THE UNDER THE BIG TOP GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR ALTA VISTA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $5,000 will allow third grade students at Alta Vista Elementary to learn and perform circus acts with the assistance of Circus Sarasota. Students will also be asked to create written work describing their personal circus experiences.

FIELD TRIPS

31. APPROVAL OF ADDENDUM TO THE VENICE MIDDLE YOUNG MARINES FIELD TRIP TO FRANCE
Description
This is an addendum to change the original approved field trip date of June 1-10, 2019 to the new field trip date of June 3-12, 2019.  Venice Middle Young Marines will take part in the 75th Anniversary of D-Day events.

Recommendation
That the addendum to the original field trip date of June 1-10, 2019 to the new field trip date of June 3-12, 2019, be approved as presented.

32. APPROVAL OF PINE VIEW SCHOOL'S SPEECH AND DEBATE FIELD TRIP TO ATTEND THE EMORY UNIVERSITY SPEECH AND DEBATE TOURNAMENT IN ATLANTA, GA ON JANUARY 24 - JANUARY 28, 2019
Description
These students will represent Pine View School in an inter-curricular Speech and Debate tournament.

Recommendation
That the Pine View School Speech and Debate field trip to Atlanta, GA on January 24-28, 2019 be approved.

33. APPROVAL FOR NORTH PORT HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA AND PERCUSSION STUDENTS FIELD TRIP TO CHICAGO, IL ON MARCH 19 - MARCH 24, 2019
Description
This trip allows our students to experience first hand the process of making a stringed instrument followed by a performance of the world famous Chicago Symphony Orchestra. These students will also have a performance of their own.

Recommendation
That the North Port High School Orchestra and Percussion students field trip to Chicago, IL on March 19 - 24, 2019 be approved.

34. APPROVAL FOR NORTH PORT HIGH SCHOOL THESPIAN STUDENTS TO TRAVEL TO NEW YORK CITY, NY ON MARCH 16 - MARCH 20, 2019
Description
This field trip will allow the North Port High School Thespian students gain firsthand knowledge about the expectations and requirements to perform in NYC. They will view Broadway shows and explore the rich culture of NYC.

Recommendation
That the North Port High School Thespian members field trip to New York City, NY on March 16 - 20, 2019 be approved.

FACILITIES

35. APPROVAL AND/OR RATIFICATION OF FACILITIES SERVICES' CHANGE ORDERS.
Description
The Facilities Services' change orders are summarized on the enclosure for ease of review. These change orders collectively total a decrease of ($84,284.92) in gross contract dollars. ($39,749.31) is going back into project 5542 budget. ($44,535.61) is going back into project 5500 budget.

Recommendation
That the Facilities Services' change orders be approved and/or ratified as presented.

CONSTRUCTION

36. ACCEPTANCE OF CONSTRUCTION SERVICES' PROJECT COMPLETION AND APPROVAL OF FINAL PAYMENT TO CONTRACTOR FOR THE TAYLOR RANCH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PORTABLES 2018.
Description
All work has been completed and all required close-out documents have been received from the contractor. The final project costs have been internally audited for approval and are enclosed herein the final payment to the contractor. The Director of Construction Services Department has determined that the project is complete in accordance with state statutes.

Recommendation
That the project be accepted as complete and the final payment to contractor be approved as presented.

37. APPROVAL OF CONSTRUCTION MANAGER'S PRECONSTRUCTION SERVICES CONTRACT FOR THE NORTH PORT HIGH SCHOOL HVAC CHILLER REPLACEMENT PROJECT
Description
The project's scope of work shall include preconstruction services and construction services to resize and replace the existing air-cooled chillers, associated pumps, variable frequency drives and add and refurbish ice storage tanks. This contract covers the preconstruction services portion only for this project. The contract for construction services will be negotiated separately at a future date. The amount of this contract is $27,000.00. The total project budget is $3,500,000.00. Funds for this project are available in the capital budget account.

Recommendation
That the construction manager's preconstruction services contract for the North Port High School HVAC Chiller Replacement project be approved as presented.

38. APPROVAL OF AMENDMENT #10 TO ARCHITECTS CONTRACT FOR THE VENICE MIDDLE SCHOOL HVAC RENOVATION AND BUILDING UPGRADES.
Description
The scope of work for this amendment is to provide additional design services to engineer the lightning protection system for the new outdoor dining area as required by code. The total amount for these changes shall not exceed $3,470.00. These funds are available through the project #5573 budget.

Recommendation
That Amendment #10 to the Agreement dated March 1, 2016, with Harvard Jolly, Inc., for the Venice Middle School HVAC Renovation and Building Upgrades be approved as presented.

Description
The recommended professionals have submitted request for annual certification by the School Board to provide professional construction related services for Sarasota County Schools' projects. These submissions are in accordance with School Board Policy #7.71.
